刘易斯一生著述甚丰，出版过若干关于英国中世纪及文艺复兴时期文学的评论作品。在学术研究方面最重要的著作有《爱的寓言：中世纪传统研究》、《十六世纪英语文学》、《个人的异端》等，在宗教方面有《痛苦问题》、《纯粹基督教信仰》等，在文学创作上则有科幻小说“空间三部曲”（《沉寂的行星之外》、《皮尔兰德拉》和《骇人的力量》）与《纳尼亚传奇》。
刘易斯创作有科幻小说及其它幻想作品、童话。他对科幻小说的深湛造诣表现在《来自沉默的行星》(1938)等三部寓言性、预言性的幻想小说中。他以寓言的方式表达他的宗教信仰。其中较为有名的有《魔鬼书信集》。该书用魔鬼的口吻写成，写魔鬼在书信中教育侄儿如何诱惑人类。但为他赢得最广泛读者的，却是他的《纳尼亚传奇》。1950年，刘易斯发表奇幻小说《狮子、女巫和魔衣柜》。在受到广大读者欢迎后，他在此后六年间，继续以故事中的纳尼亚王国为主题，每年发表一本，共组成奇幻文学巨著《纳尼亚传奇》，描写了魔法王国纳尼亚的兴亡。其中1956年出版的《最后一战》一书，为他赢得英国儿童文学的最高荣誉“卡内基文学奖”。
